Best Ecommerce Software Solution Rankings 2011

Results from October 2010 - October 2011

The results of our annual analysis of the top 1 Million sites spanning October, 2010 - October, 2011 are officially in! Our bots crawled the home pages of the top 1 million Alexa sitesand analysed them for identifying features of 32 different eCommerce platforms.

Our June, 2011 survey discovered a total of 25,592 online stores and only 4 months later we found a 4% increase in online stores, detecting 26,594 in total. Both Zen Cart and Magento have seen incredible growths of 18% each, however, Magento is the real winner with over 20% of the eCommerce sites found being attributed to their platform.

We've consistently seen growth from Magento over the last 12 months and it shows no sign of slowing. They have seen a staggering 63.71% increase this past year and something tells me that eBay's Acquisition might have played a part in that! The usage of Magento's Enterprise edition has also increased from 274 to 378 sites, up by 37.96%! As a biased Magento Developers, it is very encouraging to see more and more corporations moving to the platform.

Meanwhile, osCommerce remains the 4th most popular platform but the downward trend continues with 200 less sites compared to our June, 2011 survey. There are a number of other eCommerce platforms that have seen steady growth over the past 12 months, including Interspire, OpenCart, PrestaShop and Uber-cart.

On a side note, the hosting location of each site was checked. Of the 26,594 sites, over ten thousand were hosted in the United States with the second largest identifiable hosting country being Germany with just under two thousand sites.

Love it! I'm going to share it on our blog. Magento is dominating. I'm surprised that zencart is making such a healthy push lately. I haven't used it and haven't heard anything about it either. Anyone out there use it?

Great information. I really found this helpful, but it did seem to me that Zencart was more the "winner" overall with almost a 150% profit. That's amazing. It didn't hit the alltime high, but if I were investing in a pubic company that's who I would be hitting.

Great info thanks! We're looking at moving our store and this really helped narrow it down. Althoughm admittedly I'm surprised virtuemart has that big a market. I wonder, are people installing joomla FOR virtuemart, or is that just a by product of joomla users wanting stores.
